Okonjo-Iweala now DG for the World Trade Organization after a successful election conducted by the W.T.O election body, consisting of each representative among trade countries and members of the world trade organization.

Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala was the former minister of finance in Nigeria and a former secretary of the world bank. Her years of experience have proven no doubt she is capable of the new task ahead of her.

She is the first female to occupy the position of director-general of the world trade organization since its inception for over 25 years. She is also opportune to be the first Nigerian and Africa to that position.

She pulled a lot of support from the European Union and West Africa making her up to the final list between her and Yoo Myung-hee from south Korea.
